Remembering Nelda Laney

CPPP mourns the death of Nelda Laney, wife of former Texas Speaker of the House Pete Laney. The Laneys have been long-time supporters of CPPP and together made major strides to improve our great state. CPPP honored Pete Laney with our Texas Legacy Award in 2007.
Throughout Mrs. Laney’s life, she was a champion for her husband and was active in numerous charities and civic causes. She was instrumental in restoring the gorgeous Texas Captiol in the 1990s, raising private funds for renovations and serving as vice chair of the Texas Capitol Restoration Celebration. She created a series of collectible Texas Capitol ornaments for the continued preservation and educational programming of the Capitol. Between 1996 and 2002, Mrs. Laney handled all phases of the project and sold more than 300,000 ornaments generating more than $2 million for the Capitol. She served on numerous boards, including the Texas Tech University Alumni Association and the Texas Book Festival.
We send our condolences to the Laney family and will always remember the warmth and leadership of Nelda Laney.
